community manifesto

The Literacy Teachers’ Academy community is your space to talk about your passions, problems and progress, to ask questions, to give and receive support and feedback, to share your wins, to connect with other members, and to generally chat all things literacy.

We want this to be a fun, friendly place to be and that takes your support and help as much as it does ours.

So, with that said, here are some guidelines on how to get the most from this community and become an all-star member!

Give and take

The Literacy Teachers’ Academy is a place to both ask questions and also to share your wisdom on all things literacy. While we want people to feel comfortable asking for help, it’s also vital to the success of the community that people give as much (if not more!) than they take.

We have members of all different experience levels, so while you might ask more questions when you first arrive, remember, a few months down the line, to then help out newcomers by sharing your own experiences, answers and links to any Academy trainings you found useful when you were starting out!

Remember: sharing is caring, so don’t be shy about sharing the details of what you’ve been working on or the results of things you’ve tried. We love to hear the details, and you never know who you might inspire!

Community is key

While not everyone has as much time on their hands to spend in the forum as we do… we don’t just want the Academy Community to be a purely transactional place. We love it when members welcome newcomers, follow each others’ progress journeys, celebrate each others’ wins and have a chat about something they’ve seen or read recently! Feel free to use this space as a place to connect with your fellow literacy teachers.

Feedback good; judgement bad

The LTA Community Forum is a space for constructive, supportive feedback and therefore we want to keep this positive and judgement-free. Everyone is at different stages and something that seems obvious to you might be completely new to someone else. Try to make your feedback encouraging and practical where possible!

Share your wins

We love nothing more than seeing our members grow and achieve success and that’s why we created a space for you to shout about it! The Share Your Wins section is a space for you to share your successes – big and small!

Respect. Always

And last, but by no means least, we want the community to be a place of respect, trust, kindness and camaraderie. As such, no discrimination, hate speech, bullying or degrading comments of any kind will be tolerated.

The Academy welcomes members from all around the world regardless of background, race, religion, sexuality or ability. This is an inclusive community and any behaviour that is deemed to go against that will result in a warning or removal.

At the end of the day, we want the Literacy Teachers’ Academy Community to be a space for kind, considerate, constructive cheerleaders. Hopefully, by all following these guidelines this is what we’ll be able to create!
